Making a Difference:

Using Technology Effectively in the Classroom

Technology Curriculum Guide

Grades K-12

According to the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), students as well as teachers must learn to use technology effectively if they are to live, learn, and work in a world that is both complex and rich in information. Technology can no longer be looked at as an isolated luxury, but needs to become a tool that is woven throughout the curriculum. In the ISTE publication “National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers”, it is written that because the world, kids and learning are different than in the past, teaching must also be different. The authors say that “Being prepared to use technology and knowing how that technology can support learning must become integral skills in every teacher’s repertoire.”

For this reason, I have put together this comprehensive guide to integrating technology into the curriculum. It gives you many resources to help you accomplish the goals of our technology curriculum while at the same time tying these goals to what is being taught throughout the curriculum. We hope you find this guide to be a valuable tool for bringing the best that technology has to offer to your students.

I'd like to thank our lab assistants as well as all teachers who have contributed ideas and material to this site.
